Time Travel

It is easy to stick with routines when certain, familiar things happen at the same time and make us feel somewhat more safe. Coffee, strong and black, to start your day, with just a little slice of your favorite bread and butter, some background music that is not too loud, maybe your favorite devotional book too. Familiarity is nice, soothing, desired and feels good. Then someone breaks the silence and calls unexpectedly. Or your favorite coffee mug is used by someone else. Maybe there's a power outage and you can't get the radio on or even worse, someone took your charger and your phone battery is almost dead.
How do we feel when something changes? Are we able to adjust to new situations with ease or do we start an argument without even thinking twice? How do we overcome the disappointing moment which feels like the end of our perfect world which started out nicely, but something ruined everything. Do we blame, seek revenge or let our venting happen in all silence?
When we travel we may face some new situations and even timelines which are completely opposite from our usual routines. The coffee for a coffee lover might be way too mild, weather could be too windy and even the fact how people look at you could be the trigger for the day. How is our heart posture in those situations?
I visited several cities within the last few weeks on the other side of the globe. The time difference was 7 hours. My body had to learn new morning routines and my mind kept wondering about the local customs during the night when I was still jetlagged. I smelled the Nordic forest and saw the local news, my brain switched from one language to another and both were mixed in my brain at times. I missed certain things and yet desired other things from back home. I call this hopping from one time zone to another time traveling/ Even when you leave home from Michigan and reach the airport in Illinois you have time travelled an hour. It doesn't make a huge difference yet, but when you need that extra hour, it is your gain.
When I time travelled seven hours I felt like my own world opened again. I saw the colors more clearly and was able to discern certain, distinguished dialects and sayings. I observed the culture, customs and learned about history. I found out about similarities between two, different places: same kind of emotional baggage, yet in a different region. Trauma and success can happen anywhere, to anybody, no matter how far we travel and which time zone we reach.
When I realized that regardless of a place and time zone our love for each other still measures the fruit of our faith, I decided to leave out the time zones. Home can be anywhere, love can reach anybody, God can plant you wherever He pleases and uses you whether you saw it coming or not. He created us in His own image, gave us a mind to wonder and ponder while we wander and didn't ever wanna exhaust us by thinking about the time. God always has time. He created the universe and time and His timing might slightly differ from hours. What truly matters is our willingness to time travel with Him. Do we wanna travel back to the old days of the Book of Acts and learn about the methods God had provided already? to communicate without time limits or technology, to be so tuned with the Spirit that moment was not missed by a minute or two. Those people back in the day did not have the technologies we have, but were prayerfully being guided to follow God's lead.
My sincere hope is that even though times are different right now and we have to navigate through multiple obstacles, we could still find a way back to God's time zone where He gladly meets us as we are. His time zone is flexible and His ways are limitless. He waits for us only to show up and bring in our ideas, dreams and the whole baggage we carry. He meets us up North and down South all the same and even arranges the right circumstances for each meeting. We just have to say yes and I do over and over again and remember His still powerful promises. Seek first the Kingdom of God is one of my favorite scriptures and anchors my faith even deeper as I pray. And then He will answer, the Master of Time and Space, Creator of everything, Our loving Father, who has time when we travel and we are still.
