Time Stays Still

Time and time again, I sit at Your feet, like Mary who chose to still her mind, who knew where her source had always been. I want to be like her. I want to be able to trust like her and wait in that holy presence, regardless of what is happening around me. Seeking, praying, staying in that beautiful promise of the Almighty, knowing that all and everything is under His control.

That thought calms the inner storm. It draws me into the fountain of life that still bubbles purest revival to become more visible. Out of them flow rivers of living waters, and that gives me the desire to find them and unite with them—all those who flow from the same knowing and who share the desire to let those rivers run freely.

Mary was judged by Martha, who stayed in her busyness. Mary must have felt the sting in her spirit, realizing how costly obedience can be. But she chose what was pleasing to God, and it would not be taken from her. She enjoyed that peace she could only find in the sacred presence of God Himself. Revelations and guidance are born in those moments of deep meditation, prayer, and connection.

Prayer can sometimes feel like work. It can be a commitment that requires dedication and follow-through despite packed schedules. God is willing to teach His beloved servant daily, giving them His best advice and counsel as they turn to Him first. He is waiting for us, like Mary waiting at Jesus' feet—for more of Him and less of us.

God has time. He has the resources, He knows the strategies, and He finds a way. He has the tools, and His storehouse is filled with treasures and answers to our needs. He is good and just, and His power will never run out; there are no power outages in the Kingdom of God. His power reigns forever.

Yet we, as people, tend to forget. We tend to unplug and disconnect. We tend to become self-sufficient and rely on our own resources and solutions. We tend to put God on the back burner as a last resort for counsel when all else has been tested first. Why do we repeat that pattern? It is clearly evident that we should walk by faith in the stillness of His provision daily, knowing that all we have and own is granted to us from the source of His love—and recognizing that all glory should always go back to Him to produce powerful testimonies in His honor.

Mary chose to be quiet before Him, to offer Him sweet dedication by sacrificing her time and commitment to just listen. She understood the order; she knew it was the priority. Are we able to learn from her? To be like her in this upcoming season with calendars packed with plans for the fall? Are we able to withdraw like Mary to invest in the heavenly treasures and a Christlike setting that will ultimately save us more time? To be fully aligned with a Kingdom mentality. To be able to witness to the glory that is available for all.

As I ponder this, I see needs and wants listed in a specific order: the endless call for more to be done and accomplished in style, and the requirements coming from a place of obligation or outside my own preferences. I see the endless efforts of human life toward perfection and being spotless in His sight. Yet so many times I've witnessed the opposite to be true: in His arms we are already whole; in His creation we are perfectly made in His image. We don't need to strive for more to become something we were never meant to be. In contentment, we can rest in the knowledge that our Heavenly Father is pleased with our thirsty seeking just to be with Him.

If we let Him, we can carry that knowing into all the world. We can be fully immersed in a mindset that lacks absolutely nothing in His presence. We can set aside our fleshly attachments and worldly views about needing to be anything other than ourselves. We are enough in His sight, and in Him we can accomplish anything. He faithfully meets us where we are and creates space for us to feel seen, for He acknowledges our every attempt to unite with Him, to honor Him, and to serve His purposes. When we seek wholeheartedly, we end up with more than we expected. He rewards our sincere prayers and keeps His promises.

Mary knew how precious it would be to stay in His presence. So should we, each day.
