If you read the Bible you will discover that God speaks in many ways.
God Speaks through His Creations - In Genesis we see God speaks and all of creation comes into being and now Creation declares God’s glory and power every day. Psalm 19:1-2 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.”
God Speaks in an audible voice - In 1 Samuel 3, we see Samuel is a young boy living & serving in the Temple and one night God speaks to him. In verse 10 it says, “And the Lord came and called as before, ‘Samuel, Samuel!’ And Samuel replied, ‘Speak, your servant is listening.’” And then God reveals some truths to Samuel. We also see God speak in a whisper to Elijah while standing outside a cave (1 Kings 19;11-18). We see God speak “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased” after Jesus’ baptism (Mark 1:11).
God speaks through His Son - If you read the Gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John you see Jesus shares His Father’s truths with many people.
God Speaks through the Holy Spirit – After Jesus’ ascends into heaven he sends the Holy Spirit to lead us, guide us, and to instruct us. Have you ever been praying and then feel prompted by the Holy Spirit to do something good? That’s God speaking to you through the Holy Spirit that is living inside you!
God Speaks through dreams & Visions – In the book of Daniel we see God speak to Daniel in Visions and dreams. Daniel 7:1 says, “Daniel had a dream and saw visions as he lay in his bed.” Then Daniel wrote what he saw in his vision in verses 2-14. We also see God appears to Joseph in a dream (Mt 1:20-21) and we see the Apostle John has a vision that he wrote down (The Book of Revelation).
God Speaks through Angels – In the Book of Daniel we see God sends Angels to Daniel to deliver prophecies or interpretations of prophecies (Daniel 7,8, 10). In the New Testament we see the Angel Gabriel appear to Mary to tell her that she is going to have God’s son, the Savior of the World (Lk 1:26-38). In the Book of Revelation we see Angels delivering God’s message to the Apostle John.
God Speaks through His Written Word – God inspired human beings to write the books of the Bible, so we could know who God is, what he has done, and how he wants us to live and treat others.
As you can see God speaks in many ways! The quesiton is are we listening?
This year may we allow God to speak to our hearts and minds and may we be obedient and do God’s will.
God speaking through his Creation is something I feel I've experienced my whole life, especially when I am taking in a particularly beautiful view - such as in the mountains or at sunset time at the lake. He created this beauty for us and it shows how much He loves us. It touches my soul and gives me peace. Thank you, Father!!
